Roller derby triple be-header

Press Release – Triple Be-Header July 6th

Dunedin, New Zealand, July 6th 2013 – Dunedin Derby is putting on the event of the year, the Triple Be-header. Taking place at the Lion Foundation Arena on July 6th, 2013, this phenomenal event will see Dunedin defending their 2012 victory. Guest teams “Otautahi Roller Derby League” from Christchurch and “Sirens of Smash” from Nelson will take on the almighty title holders, Dunedin Derby’s very own “Gallow Lasses”.

Doors open at 5:00pm, with heats starting and 5:30 and the finals to be held at 8pm. Warm up this winter with a heated roller derby bout! Pre-sale tickets are $15 an adult, $12 for students and children for $7. Family pre-sale passes (2 adults and 2 children) will be available for purchase for a mere $40. For an evening jam-packed with athleticism and spectacle, be sure to purchase your tickets from ticketdirect.co.nz or any participating ticket direct outlets.

The previous years triple be-header was hosted by Nelson’s “Sirens of Smash” where Dunedin took the title home with a final score of “180-98”. Gallow Lasses captain Nicki Noxious says, “Since taking out the title and trophy in 2012, we have been training hard and stepping up game play to ensure “Lady Luck” stays in the south. We are extremely excited to be defending her in front of a home crowd in 2013.” Sirens of Smash captain Roxy Smashy Blackheart remarks “Dunedin Derby put up a fantastic battle last year, but this year we are here to win the war.” She also says her team “are hoping to bring a more strategic game to Dunedin with a more experienced team. We have a great relationship with Otautahi and Dunedin Derby, both on and off the track, but this year we are hoping to smash them both.” Otautahi captain Baddy Long Legs states “It’s a chance to take on the best of the South Island skaters. To us it’s about hard-hitting athletes using cunning skills and pure athleticism to showcase women’s flat track derby. We can’t wait to skate it out in a series of bouts for roller derby supremacy.”

Last year’s event had over 2000 people in attendance, so don’t hesitate to get in quick and secure yourself some tickets. Door sales will be offered at $20 an adult, $15 for students and $10 for children but owing to the previous years success, availability is not guaranteed. Join Dunedin Derby for this spectacular event and support your local team as it defends Dunedin’s victorious title at the “Triple Be-header”. Come along and witness history in the making with a guaranteed and affordable night of entertainment and excitement for family and friends.
